New Trump Coin Scam: Is It Real?
No. As of Tuesday, there is no confirmed new Trump coin — the whole story traces back to a single anonymous X post from an account called @WhaleScan, which claimed Trump was "officially" launching a new token. No contract address, no wallet, no evidence, just a claim. That is the entire basis for the new Trump coin scam rumor that briefly ripped through crypto Twitter over the weekend. Eric Trump shut it down directly on Saturday, August 22, calling it "a fraud." Yet the rumor still did real damage to prices before anyone bothered to check it.
TRUMP, the existing memecoin tied to the president, is trading between roughly $2.36 and $2.49 across exchanges as of this writing, down about 7% over the past 24 hours. That decline is the rumor unwinding — TRUMP, already elevated by the broader market-wide short squeeze that had pushed it above $3 on Friday, spiked a further 38% to 40% in a matter of hours on Saturday on top of that, briefly trading as high as $3.60. MELANIA, the companion token, moved a smaller but still sharp 11% to 18% on the same story. Both tokens are now giving that spike back.
Why the WWW/Truth Coin Contract Doesn't Match the Story
The rumor attached itself to a mystery token deployed on Robinhood Chain, which some trackers labeled "WWW" or "Truth Coin." That alone should have been a red flag: the chain's own official explorer tags the same contract differently, not Truth Coin. When the tool built to identify a token can't agree with the rumor about what the token is even called, that's not a naming quirk — it's a sign nobody verified anything before repeating it.
Robinhood Chain has its own recent history that made this easier to believe. The network has a documented problem with honeypot and vanishing-token scams, where tokens are purchased and then simply can't be sold or transferred. Traders who'd already seen shady deployments on that chain were primed to accept "a mystery new coin just appeared" as plausible, rather than asking for proof first.
There's also a kernel of real news the rumor could hide inside. Trump Media has a genuine, previously announced plan for a DJT shareholder token, distributed in partnership with Crypto.com's Cronos network, with a record date already set earlier this year and no confirmed distribution date yet. That project is real. WWW/Truth Coin is not the same thing, and nothing ties the two together — but the existence of one made the other easier to believe.
Is WWW/Truth Coin Legit or a Scam?
Treat it as unverified at best, and most likely a scam narrative built to pump existing Trump-linked tokens. There is no confirmed contract from Trump, Trump Media or any of their representatives. The only "evidence" is a rumor from an account with no verification behind it, riding on a Robinhood Chain deployment whose own metadata contradicts the story being told about it. Eric Trump's denial — delivered the same day the rumor spread — is the most direct answer available, and it lines up with everything else here: there's no paper trail, no announcement, no verified deployment.
Why Did TRUMP and MELANIA Pump on a Fake Rumor Anyway?
Because both tokens were already primed for exactly this kind of spark. TRUMP and MELANIA have been in a brutal, multi-year downtrend since their January 2025 launch peak — TRUMP is still roughly 97% below its all-time high, MELANIA around 99% below its own. Nansen data puts the damage at about 1.48 million wallets holding TRUMP or MELANIA, with roughly 989,000 of them underwater, for combined losses near $3.81 billion. That is a huge, largely disappointed holder base that will react hard to any hint of a "refresh" — a new coin, a relaunch, anything that suggests the original bet might pay off after all.
Layer onto that a genuinely strong week for the broader market. TRUMP's 7-day gain sits around 71.6% and its 30-day gain near 52.6%, but most of that reflects the market-wide short squeeze that lifted Bitcoin, Ethereum and most large-cap altcoins between August 19 and 21 — a rally this site has already covered and that had nothing to do with Trump-branded tokens specifically. The rumor landed inside an already risk-on market, which amplified the reaction well beyond what an unverified X post should have been able to produce on its own.
What Happens Next
The realistic base case is straightforward: no new coin materializes, and TRUMP and MELANIA continue fading their rumor-day spike back toward pre-August 22 levels. TRUMP's 24-hour decline of roughly 7% is the early stage of that unwind, and it's likely to continue as the broader market-wide squeeze that inflated the weekly numbers cools off in parallel. Nothing about the underlying structure of either token has changed — this was a rumor and a denial, not a catalyst.
The more durable risk is repetition. As long as the real DJT/Cronos shareholder token remains undistributed, it will keep supplying just enough legitimate signal for copycat rumors to hide inside. Watch for further posts from Eric or Donald Trump or from Trump Media confirming or denying crypto plans — that is the only kind of evidence that should move anyone's view here. Anything else, including another anonymous "officially launching" post, deserves the same skepticism this one earned only after the price had already moved.
